Glenda McLean is working in Queensland
Ararat councillors have been asked to meet with Mayor Glenda McLean at 5pm tomorrow, an hour before the Ararat Rural City Council's monthly meeting.
It has been confirmed Cr McLean is now working at Queensland’s North West Hospital and Health Service in Mt Isa, as she has previous experience in community health.
Ararat deputy mayor Gwenda Allgood confirmed Cr McLean had asked councilors to join her at the 5pm gathering, adding that she knew nothing more of the circumstances.
Since Friday there has been speculation in Ararat on the whereabouts of Cr McLean following unconfirmed reports that Ararat’s mayoral vehicle had been impounded in Melbourne, a removal truck had been seen at her residence, that she had taken on an interstate job and that people had been unable to contact her on several different numbers.
Ararat council officials had also been unsure of her whereabouts but had said they had expect McLean to attend tomorrow night’s council meeting.
The lack of information about the mayor’s whereabouts prompted a response from David Hosking, a local businessman.
Mr Hosking said he was disappointed to the mayor’s unexplained absence and the State Government needs to get involved and take further action to restore community confidence in the council.
