Blue-green algae warning for Lake Toolondo

A BLUE-green algae warning has been issued for Lake Toolondo.

GWMWater has warned the public to avoid direct contact with the water after high levels of the toxic algae were detected.

Warning signs have been positioned around the lake and will remain in place while the warning is current.

People can still boat, sightsee and enjoy other activities at the lake that do not involve direct water contact.

It is recommended people avoid all contact with affected water and those who do come into contact with the affected water should the skin immediately in clean water.

Blue-green algae can be dangerous to humans and animals and some of the characteristic signs of algae contact include skin rashes or itchiness, sore eyes, ears and nose and if swallowed nausea or vomiting.

It is not possible to predict how long the algae will remain at high levels within the lake and the water will be regularly monitored.
