Liberal Nationals bill voted down
The Liberal Nationals Presumptive Rights legislation has been voted down in parliament.
Labor blocked the bill, which aims to provide all career and volunteer firefighters access to compensation to certain cancers, without the need to prove firefighting was the cause.
Member for Lowan Emma Kealy is concerned the Andrews Government dismissed presumptive cancer rights for firefighters in Victoria.
Ms Kealy said Daniel Andrews was more interested in keeping UFU leader Peter Marshall happy than he was in protecting firefighters.
“The Liberal Nationals introduced a bill to give all career and volunteer firefighters access to cancer compensation without the need to jump through hoops to prove themselves”, Ms Kealy said.
“Labor voted down the legislation in what can only be described as an act of complete contempt for volunteers."
