Race meet back on after unfortunate cancellation

Whilst many were planning on heading to the Murtoa cup Saturday - the race meet was unfortunately abandoned due to a burst water pipe on the most integral part of the track - the home straight...

In what no one could have predicted the pipe burst right on the turn into the home straight with stewards deciding saturday morning the track was unfit for racing and first and foremost the personal safety of Jockeys, volunteers and horses was number one.

All the hard work the Murtoa racing club committee and volunteers hasn't gone to waste though with country racing Victoria rescheduling the meet to this Sunday.

The Manangatang and Hamilton Cup meetings are scheduled on Saturday and Racing Victoria will review the racing program and advise of any changes to the Murtoa Cup program.

Penny Penfold - racing operations manager for Murtoa Marma racing club..says all tickets have been fully refunded so punters cant now repurchase tickets.

"It was very disappointing for the club for the committee for all the volunteers that put so much effort into the raceday and the countless number of volunteer hours go into preparing something like this -so very disappointing for the club. Participant safety is paramount in racing though and thats our number one priority so a decision was made to cancel the raceday".

"We're full steam ahead for Sunday with the usual entertainment which will be fantastic with kids activities and fashions on the field going ahead and tunes on the lawn and we are still hopeful to have the Melbourne cup in attendance but that will be confirmed very soon".

Tickets can be purchased on the Country Racing Victoria website.
